FAQ
How fast is a comment restricted?
Usually within a few seconds of being posted. Comments whose event never arrives are picked up by the hourly check. For zero exposure, use the Restricted comment composer on the issue.
What if I @mention someone who can't see the comment?
The Restricted comment composer warns you and names them before posting. Jira still sends them a mention email, but without the comment text.
Does it send "comment edited" notifications?
No. The app restricts comments without notifying watchers.
Why couldn't a comment be restricted?
The log says why. The usual reasons: the app isn't in the project role it restricts to, or it lacks Edit all comments in that project. Check setup shows and fixes both.
What about replies?
Jira makes a reply follow its parent comment's visibility, so the app leaves replies alone.
Does it change comments that are already restricted?
No. Comments that already have a visibility are left as they are.
Does the app read comment text?
Only to send it back unchanged when it sets the visibility (Jira requires the text in that request). Comment text is never stored.
What happens if the subscription ends?
The safety net stops and rules can't be changed until it's renewed. Comments already restricted stay restricted.
